TOURISM RELATED PROJECTS
We have been involved in a number of major hospitality and tourism related projects in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands over the last 15 years.
The Hotel Sector
Projects have included services to developers on feasibility and market demand studies, hotel operator search and selection, negotiation of management contracts, advice on Body Corporate issues and liaising with owners and investors.
Following are just some of the hotels we have worked with or helped to create.
The Westin Auckland, Lighter Quay
Auckland's newest 5-star hotel, the Westin opened in 2007, with 172 luxury rooms and suites, an award-winning restaurant, conference facilities and a health spa. Ideally located on the water-front in the Viaduct Harbour, the hotel has rapidly established itself as the home away from home for corporate high fliers, visiting dignitaries and rock-stars alike.
| The Sebel Suites, Auckland | |
![]() | A 129-room apartment hotel, at the heart of Auckland's waterfront, Viaduct harbour, The Sebel Suites opened in 2000. The hotel offers a range of studio and 1-bed apartments located above a vibrant precinct of world-class restaurants and cafes, right on the water's edge. |
| The Auckland Metropolis | |
![]() | Overlooking Albert Park, in the trendy precinct of Auckland's city centre, the Gothic-inspired architecture of this serviced apartment complex has been a landmark on the skyline since the day it opened. |
| The Spencer on Byron, Takapuna | |
![]() | Located in Auckland's North Shore City and operated by Castle Resorts & Hotels of Hawaii, the 249-room Spencer on Byron opened in 2001, and is still the largest hotel north of the Harbour Bridge. |
| The Scenic Circle Airedale Hotel, Auckland | |
![]() | This highly successful 100-room hotel was created out of the original MLC building on Queen Street, directly opposite the Auckland Town Hall. Still retaining many of its original historic features, it now provides a range of accommodation options, together with a lively restaurant and bar on the ground floor. |
| The Holiday Inn Wellington | |
![]() | The Holiday Inn Wellington opened its doors in January 2007 as the first internationally branded purpose built hotel to open in Wellington in 15 years. Strategically located close to the railway station, Parliament and the law courts, the hotel offers 280 contemporary bedrooms, with a range of conference facilities and a street-level bar and restaurant. In 2011 the property became part of the Rydges portfolio. |
| The Grand Tiara Hotel and Conference Centre, Rotorua | |
![]() | This 133-room hotel, formerly the Sheraton Rotorua, was re-branded several years ago by its overseas owners, for whom we acted as Owner's Representative. Over this time, we provided advice on the on-going management and marketing of the hotel operation, assisting the owners in the finalisation of a successful asset disposal in 2007. It is now the Distinction Rotorua Hotel. |
| Beach-front hotel development, Marahau, Abel Tasman | |
![]() | The owners of this prime water-front property now hold a Resource Consent for a 120-room international resort hotel development. We assisted with the Resource Consent process and a range of development options, including advice and recommendations on hotel operators and brands. |
| Quality assurance in the tourism sector | |
![]() | Building on our experience working on New Zealand's first national tourism accommodation and grading programme, Qualmark, which was launched in 1994, we have gone on to work with and advise other organisations on similar projects, both in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. |
| The Cook Islands National Tourism Accreditation programme | |
![]() | Funded through the New Zealand Government's aid budget for the Cook Islands, we helped develop their national tourism accreditation scheme, which was launched in 1997, the first of its kind to be introduced into the Pacific Islands. |
| The SPTO Regional Accommodation Classification Scheme | |
| Wellington-based Tourism Resource Consultants (www.trcnz.com) spear-headed the development of the first regional accommodation classification scheme for the South Pacific Tourism Organisation in 2005. We assisted them, as a facilitator at the Samoa workshop held in September that year, as part of the development process. |
| Coral Sea Hotels, Papua New Guinea | |
![]() | With nine hotels spread through PNG, Coral Sea Hotels is the largest local hotel chain in the country. As PNG contemplates the introduction of a national hotel grading system, the chain is keen to be at the fore-front of the development of national hospitality standards. |
Papua New Guinea
In 2009, with funding from the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, we undertook a feasibility study for the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority on setting up a Quality Assurance System for Tourist Accommodation in Papua New Guinea.
